The health and wellness trend has taken off in recent years, and functional supplements and beverages experienced unparalleled growth. 75% of restaurant operators say they’ve seen an increase in interest for healthful beverage offerings.
Consumers are seeking healthier drink alternatives to popular energy drinks.
Goldman Sachs surveyed 30,000 retailers who expect to see a total category lift of 14% in 2023 - up from a projected growth of 11% in 2022. One reason for this is consumers viewing energy drinks as “affordable luxury.” Energy drinks have been able to grow despite aggressive price increases, as they’re seen by consumers as an affordable way to indulge in a refreshing beverage with additional benefits.
A survey by technomic indicated that 35% eat healthy to feel more energized and there is a 45% increase in consumer interest in energy drinks that call out a health benefit. Energy drink sales have done especially well as top sellers for C-store operators and across coffee chains. Brands like Ellianos Coffee, Ziggi’s Coffee, and Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii have all revitalized their menu with energy drink infusions to boost sales, attract new consumers, and increase diversification. But it shouldn’t stop here for brands and segments leveraging the energy drink trend, as continued demand is expected for these innovative products.
